Saving Children’s Lives at Home and Abroad is Top Priority for Dr. Mark Holterman

There is no doubt that Dr. Mark Holterman’s schedule is overcrowded. In addition to seeing patients at his practice in Peoria, IL and his duties as the attending pediatric surgeon for both the St. Francis Medical Center and Advocate Christ Children’s Hospital; he dedicates endless hours to researching innovative technologies in stem cell regeneration therapies, treatments for cancer, and the management of obesity. Dr. Holterman is also a leading educational advocate. Eager to share his vast knowledge in the arena of pediatric surgery, he serves as a professor at the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Despite his hectic schedule, Dr. Holterman is a firm believer in the donation of his time and expertise to the solution of global issues in pediatric health care.

Holterman presently holds the position of CEO for Mariam Global Health, whose first responsibility as an international management and investment firm is to encourage healthcare companies to foster and facilitate global programs active in research and development, innovation management, and supporting care worldwide. As a result, Dr. Holterman considers the support of health-focused charities a top priority (Vitals). He is highly active in organizations pertaining to pediatrics in underprivileged countries, such as the International Pediatrics Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam (IPSAC-VN) and Children’s Surgery International or CSI.

The primary goal of the ISPAC-VN is to develop an independent network of care serving the children of Vietnam. This is accomplished through the benevolent donation of much needed financial resources, supplies, modern medical equipment, and support services. The most important resource, however, is provided by physicians and surgeons in the form of knowledge. These medical practitioners educate current providers, medical students, and professors regarding the latest developments available to pediatric patients. In addition, the ISPAC-VN works with national and international physicians to arrange life-saving surgeries for children in remote areas.

Children’s Surgery International is another charitable organization with a presence in Vietnam. It primarily provides medical and surgical services to orphaned girls and those from poverty-stricken homes. This organization specializes in holistic programs and lifestyle programs benefitting children worldwide.
